Abstract :
In mm-wave space-harmonic magnetrons use is made both of the main cold secondary-electron emitter cathode to produce the operating current and of an ancillary cathode with a thermo-electron emitter, which is located at the end of the main cathode to ensure the triggering current. The paper presents the results of 3-D simulation of the magnetron triggering process. It is shown that there exists a relationship between the magnitude of the ancillary cathode current and the steepness of anode voltage pulse, at which the self-oscillations in a magnetron cannot be induced.
