Abstract
WebTP is a benchmark that measures the performance of a web information subsystem-the Order Management system. Its business logic represents a web Order Management system that facilitates the purchase of goods and services on the Internet. Order Management is an important and integral application of electronic commerce and hence WebTP has applicability to businesses engaged in e-commerce. Because of the proliferation of web technologies and the non-emergence of a lead technology, there is currently a proposal for various implementations or versions of WebTP. The main contribution of this paper is the discussion of the issues (e.g. business models, distributed transactional control, security) involved in creating benchmark specifications for web applications such as e-commerce applications.
