Abstract
The authors discuss their model of a loosely coupled distributed system, and present preliminary results for a heuristic rule-based approach to load balancing. They are currently in the process of implementing load balancing in the presence of faults in some of the constituent nodes of the distributed system. The chief contributions of this research will be in the use of a rule-based expert system approach for solving the problem of task reallocations in fault-tolerant distributed systems
