Abstract :
The design and manufacture of thickness control systems for three hot-strip mills are discussed. The systems have been redesigned as digital distributed systems incorporating hydraulic roll positioning. Although each system was customized to account for differences in existing equipment and new hydraulic configuration, the principles of design, functionality, and project organization were the same in each case. The systems have been installed and brought into operation with relative ease.<>
