Abstract :
The rapid increase in circuit density of an electronic system introduces the challenges to high speed board designers. High-speed signals of few GHz range need to be transferred in a high-speed interconnection where signals may experience transmission line effects such as delay, reflection, attenuation, EMI, ringing, crosstalk etc., during transmission. These effects are the Signal Integrity issues need to be minimized in chip to chip communication. Mitigating the effect of NEXT, FEXT in board/chip can dramatically increase the signal quality and thereby performance of the system. This paper presents a study on crosstalk that could affect signals on Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) and proposes a wavelet based filtering technique for minimizing crosstalk noise. Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) filter based on interconnect (transmission line) parameters is designed to eliminate crosstalk noise which uses five levels of filter banks. After the fifth level, Inverse Discrete Wavelet Transform is used for reconstruction and the amount of noise is reduced by 70.5%.
