Abstract
The calculations of scattering characteristics of polydisperse medium with ellipsoidal raindrops are considered. The novelty of the approach used is that differential radar cross section (DRCS) of ellipsoidal drops have been calculated in the framework of the Pruppacher model in the case of double-frequency sounding. The DRCS is studied in details at 8 mm, 3cm and 10 cm wavelengths according to their shape and viewing angle. As it was shown the drop shape weaker affects on data of double-frequency sounding than in the case of a single-frequency sounding. The expressions for signal processing of double-frequency radar are obtained which take into account nonsphericity of rain drops.
