  • Abstract
IEEE 1159 is a recommended practice for monitoring electric power quality. Among the clauses within this standard is a section describing the application techniques for power quality monitoring. When applying a power quality monitor within a facility, many issues must be considered, such as the objectives to be achieved, understanding of the power system and loads, safety, the location of monitoring point within the electrical system, and the triggering of the monitor. This paper outlines these various items that should be considered when applying a power quality monitor in an electrical power system.
