Abstract :
A front end-rectifier followed by a PWM-VSI has been well-established power converter configuration for many industrial drives. For low power ratings, the system configuration usually comprises a single to three-phase converter with additional circuitry for PFC. However this approach has an impact on the system cost and packaging. A new concept of replacing the conventional boost PFC with a bridgeless PFC topology is introduced here. In order to further reduce the conduction loss and complexity of switching a four switch inverter has been proposed. This in turn makes a classic solution for cost effective, small size and efficient converters. The drawbacks in conventional motor drive can be minimized with the proposed ac -dc -ac converter set. The proposed system uses a single to three-phase converter topology with PFC circuit and reduced switch converter to control an induction motor. Unlike other configurations using extra switches, in this circuit the boost action for input current shaping is done by the proposed bridgeless PFC topology and the conventional inverter is replaced by proposed four switch inverter. The validity of this circuit is demonstrated by simulation results on 1hp induction motor.
