Abstract
Composite insulators have been widely used in contaminated area because of their excellent antipollution performance. However, some flashover faults of composite insulators were also caused by contamination, especially the composite insulators being used around cement plant. In the paper, the electrical properties and hydrophobicity of different concrete deposit density polluted composite insulators were analyzed in laboratory. The result shows that the flashover voltage decreased with the increase of the concrete deposit density and there is a power function between flashover voltage and concrete deposit density whenever the insulators were polluted for ten days or just for ten minutes. The hydrophobicity of the concrete polluted composite insulators increased with the pollution time and decreased with concrete content.
