Abstract
The subcutaneous (s.c.) route for closed-loop control of glucose was evaluated. Experimental studies on s.c. tissue glucose monitoring and numerical studies on continuous s.c. infusion of monomeric insulin analogues, and neural predictive control of glucose were carried out. The control framework combines: (1) off-line system identification using the concept of NARX (Non-linear AutoRegressive model with eXogenous inputs) system representation and regularization approach for constructing a radial basis function neural network; and (2) nonlinear model predictive controller design. The results demonstrate that the s.c. route is an alternative for closed-loop control of glucose
