Abstract :
The development of sophisticated and complex `intelligent´ systems often requires effective means to process information and control complicated systems. An `intelligent´ system gathers information and interacts with its environment under the control of microprocessors programmed to process information and to execute control actions or responses to sensory inputs. The authors review briefly the basic principles of genetic algorithms and examine some potential applications of genetic programming for intelligent vehicle systems. They demonstrate the potential of this method by examining a particular problem in detail; the discovery of a control algorithm for an active suspension system
