Abstract :
The problem of controller design and evaluation requires simulation of the nonlinear plant, which is difficult In this example, a neural network is trained to behave exactly as the real plant (a nonlinear solenoid valve with position control), which can then be used in place of the real valve for safe testing of the controller. An advantage of this technique is that the neural network can also be used to monitor the functioning of the valve. The neural network can then act as for fault detection
