Abstract :
A low-deadspace system was built to deliver inhaled nitric oxide (NO) from a concentrated (10%) source that reduces dilution of inhaled oxygen concentrations. NO was delivered to a target dosage over the range of 60 to 180 PPM. Inhaled oxygen concentration remained above 99% over the full NO range. Less than 3 PPM of NO2, was produced at the maximum 180 PPM dose of NO. Only with this system can the efficacy of inhaled NO be tested as an adjunct to optimal conventional medical therapy. Future studies will investigate the true NO dose/response relationship
