Abstract
In this paper, we address the boundary mismatch problem between a color image and a corresponding depth image for depth-image-based rendering (DIBR) and propose an edge dependent preprocessing method. Due to the mismatch problem, synthesized views without preprocessing generate both separation and loss of foreground objects, which result in serious visual artifacts. We first analyze each condition which generates separation and loss, then determine the areas where preprocessing is necessary. Edge dependent parallax descent and propagation are applied to these estimated separation and loss areas, respectively. Simulation results show that our algorithm efficiently prevents the separation and loss artifacts with low computational complexity.
