Abstract :
A modular-based design approach is presented for research on an implantable VVI mode pacemaker. This demand-type VVI (ventricle pace, ventricle sensed, inhibited) mode research prototype pacemaker is partitioned into three modules, including digital processing, analog processing and master clocking modules. All functional modules are designed and fabricated in a 3.0 μm single-metal double-poly CMOS process. An embedded 8151 microcomputer and on-board level implementation are also utilized to verify major pacemaker characteristics including on-demand and asynchronous stimulus generation, programmable mode parameters and diagnosis function
