Abstract :
The 3D reconstruction of natural scenes using stereoscopic images known as stereovision is rarely used in remote sensing applications. This method gives useful information and can ameliorate the physical interpretations of natural scenes such as terrain morphology, soil roughness, growth of crops, etc. The authors propose the use of stereovision to reconstruct simulated and natural scenes. For this, they have used two stereoscopic images taken by two cameras installed on an experimental platform and have simulated stereoscopic images of different synthetic targets. The simulation results are used to validate the reconstruction model of natural scenes. It is also demonstrated that a compromise exists between the desired size of a reconstructed area of soil surfaces and its resolution given the chosen geometrical parameters of the cameras
