Abstract :
A compact design of antenna arrays for digital beamforming purposes is proposed. The essential idea is based on a series-fed slot antenna array with spatial multiplexing of local elements (SMILE) techniques. The proposed approach offers several advantages, such as compactness, low cost, and compatibility with MMICs. A 4-element array testbed at 5.5 GHz center frequency is fabricated and digital beamforming on this testbed is successfully demonstrated.
