  • Abstract
    This paper presents a low power and low phase noise LC tank VCO for a portable receiver front-end in a TSMC 0.18 μm 1P6M CMOS process. The complementary cross-coupled topology and memory reduction tail current source were used in this work. The phase noise of measured value is -112.75 dBc/Hz at offset frequency 600KHz from the 1.95GHz carrier. The VCO core circuit draws only 2.77mW from a 1.5V supply. The tuning range of the circuit is 341MHz (17.5%) and the FOM is 178.56dB. It meets the requirements for communication circuits of low power and low phase noise which have been achieved simultaneously.
