Abstract
In wavelet video coding, block-based motion estimation (ME) and compensation (MC) is extensively adopted to exploit the temporal correlation across video frames. Due to complicated motion model, error propagation of motion compensated temporal filtering (MCTF) for longer filter is more difficult than Haar filter. In this paper, we analysis pixels connectivity and reference selection for Multi-level MCTF and derive the effect of the quantization error of subbands on the reconstruction error of a group of pictures. According to results, error propagation model is proposed for 5/3-based MCTF. Experiments show that the proposed approach predicts accurately distortion of reconstructed video frames.
