Abstract :
This paper presents an IC card interface using embedded technology for living support systems. There are many electronic and information devices in daily life. However, handicapped and elderly people can find these very difficult to handle because of the many buttons and keys in their controller units. There is a need to simplify the interfaces of these devices, and researchers and engineers are investigating ways of improving them. With this background, the authors propose an interface that controls devices in a room using only the IC cards, with the expectation that it becomes an easy interface to use. As a first step for the proposed system, the paper shows an outline of the concept, the fundamental system for the driver software between reader and microcomputer, its applications, and improvements to the card´s detection speed using interrupt processing.
