  • Abstract
In this paper, we suggest a velocity adaptive handoff algorithm that determines the handoff threshold value according to the velocity of mobile, and analyze the effect of this new algorithm. Also we analyze the traffic characteristics in a micro/macro overlaid CDMA PCS system where voice and data channels are processed separately. Handoff procedure is the important parameter for evaluating PCS systems. For this, we calculated inter-microcell handoff area dwelling time distribution and micro/macrocell handoff area dwelling time distribution. Using these results and a M/M/C/K model, we analyzed the traffic performance of macrocells with handoff area variation of microcells. Simulation results show that the blocking probability of microcells and macrocells depends on the handoff area variation
