Abstract :
This paper presents a novel short circuit current limiting device with series compensation, which is composed of a vacuum circuit breaker with a short closing time, a compensation capacitor and a limiting reactor. The vacuum circuit breaker with a short closing time is connected in parallel with the compensation capacitor and controls either the series compensation or the short circuit current limitation. The simulation and experimental study has proved that this device has a good performance in limiting the short circuit current.
