Abstract :
The efficient use of overlap areas between adjacent cells using the directed retry scheme can significantly reduce the call blocking probability in cellular systems. Analysis of the directed retry scheme in the literature has been restricted to systems supporting a single type of application. In this paper, we analyse systems supporting different types of applications requiring different amounts of bandwidth. We also analyse the effect of different strategies to use the directed retry scheme. We show that applications requiring more bandwidth are more sensitive to the use of directed retry. On the other hand, in a system supporting two types of applications, the strategy that applies directed retry to both types of applications yields better performance than other strategies
