  • Abstract
Precedence-based assured services (PBAS) is defined in a simple term as "PBAS ensures that when a network is stressed, higher precedence messages will receive their QoS with higher probability than lower precedence messages". PBAS allows messages and traffic flows in the GIG to be processed according to their precedence requirements. This paper introduces some of the functional roles and capabilities of data, control and management planes for PBAS solution. This paper also addresses key points of the analysis models and their functionalities and requirements for different time frames. IPv4 and IPv6 protocol issues with different underlying layer 2 architectures are studied. A new Internet control message protocol (ICMP) code points and the protocol flow is designed and proposed
