Abstract :
This paper presents a study of an optical wireless system capable of supporting packet voice services in an indoor environment. Diffused infrared (IR) systems offer user mobility, as is the case with radio systems, high bandwidth and abundant unregulated spectrum. The proposed system utilises the concept of packet reservation multiple access (PRMA) protocol for sharing the IR medium to mobile terminal units (TUs) under time-division duplex (TDD) mode. In addition, optical codes for reservation can be used to prevent collisions while many TUs are apply for slot reservation simultaneously. By analysis, we reveal the performance parameters such as average access delay, throughput, statistical multiplexing gain, and packet dropping probability for the system
