Abstract :
One of the many means of increasing the capacity of cellular mobile communication systems is to rearrange calls in progress. Rearrangements can be done on such a way that some call requests, which would otherwise have been blocked, can be accommodated instead. Here, we look at the reduction in the probability of new call blocking-a measure of the increase in system capacity-that one rearrangement can deliver. This reduction is approximated by four analytical methods and compared against those obtained via simulations for two cellular systems
