Abstract :
Substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) is a recently introduced waveguide structure with promising features. In this paper, a rigorous computational method for the analysis of periodic structures is applied to the calculation of dispersion characteristics of the SIW. The method reduces Maxwell´s equations to a system of telegraph equations which can be analyzed by means of the circuit theory for multi-conductor transmission lines. By using this method, the effect of dielectric losses and that of conductor losses of the vias on propagation characteristics of the SIW is investigated.
