Abstract :
The author examined a series of skin biopsy specimens which meet the following criteria: (1) both nonlesional epidermis and epidermis replaced by solar (actinic) keratosis were present on the histopathological slide; (2) in addition to the solar keratosis, a basal cell carcinoma was present on the slide; (3) at least a portion of the basal cell carcinoma was in direct contact with the epidermis. Morphometric analysis of the extent of association of the basal cell carcinomas in contact with the normal epidermis versus with the solar keratoses showed a nonrandom (p<0.1) association with the latter.<>
