Abstract
An approach being undertaken to provide a language-based methodology for formalizing the manipulation of diagnostic imagery drawn from a number of distinct physical sources is described. It consists in essence of a vehicle for bridging the gap between the simple display and storage of such images and the eventual process of automated image understanding and expert-system-aided diagnostics. The use of a common abstracted data object based on a region topology is proposed, and the ramifications of such an approach are explored
