Abstract :
Relay is an important actuator for electric power and control systems. Its reliability strongly influences the system reliability. The research on dynamic characteristics of the relay is necessary for improving the system reliability. In this paper, series of dynamic characteristics for electromagnetic relay were obtained through coupled structural finite element computation, electromagnetic finite element computation and kinetic numerical computation. The computation results matched with the test results. Further, the electromagnetic, kinetic and work-energy characteristics during the pick-up and release process of the relay were analyzed. There were problems such as when relay was operating, the impact between armature iron and stop components were severe, and the bounce during release process was more obvious than pick-up process. Therefore, the solutions like reasonably designing the combination between pick-up force and counterforce, changing mechanical parameters of contact part were presented. The optimal design principles of the combination between pick-up force and counterforce were also presented.
