  • Abstract
We study different adaptation structures using the combination of an adaptive finite impulse response filter front-end and the M-algorithm detector. Comprehensive numerical simulations are carried out based on the packet pattern of the GSM systems. From the results we find that the adaptive Forney (1972) structure (whitened matched filter) can achieve a better error performance than the adaptive matched filter structure. It approaches near optimal performance at a reasonably low receiver complexity
