Abstract :
Increasing numbers of elderly people is a common phenomenon in developing and developed countries. The percentage of elderly living alone also increased gradually in these nations. An important achievement for modern governments would be to provide suitable help for elderly people in their daily lives. However, most projects and research of the administration focus on the healthcare of the human body. Few of these pay attention to the care of human mind. We propose a mind assistant system for elderly living alone. The system uses the technologies of affective computing and fuzzy interpolation to support the judgment of emotion state for elderly living alone. It applies traditional interpolation mechanism and centroid of triangle to compute a new fuzzy interval from two different triangle fuzzy partitions. The system then uses the context information of the elderly living alone, which are, time, location, nearby objects, emotion type, and comfort level, to match the similar cases from the case library. The system uses the case-based reasoning with the help of emotion information of the person to find the possible mind state and mind assistant strategy. Finally, we simulate the context of elderly living alone to verify the developed system. We also hope the system can offer substantial help for the elderly living alone in the world.
