Abstract
In Europe today, there are five existing Type I ecolabels for personal computers plus one that is in development. One Type III ecolabel for PCs exists, and another one is in development. One energy label for PCs is established in Europe, and another one is about to be introduced. This paper reports on the Type I ecolabel in development, the European Union (EU) Eco-label. It outlines the aims of Eco-labelling in general and the specific aims of the EU programme. It describes the process used to develop criteria in the EU scheme and the results achieved to date in the PC project. It closes with a brief discussion of Type I versus Type III ecolabels
