Abstract :
As wireless, satellite, and other new media are incorporated in the Internet, the need to enhance existing protocols to maximize the benefit of these new media is frustrated by the very protocol standardization that has made the Internet so pervasive. This paper describes the details of a Unix kernel-level implementation of protocol boosters, which are a means to maximize the benefits of existing protocols without requiring changes to those protocols
