Abstract :
Current network management depends on centralized monitoring, analysis and control by operations staff. This complex and labor intensive management paradigm has been faced with its limits by the scale and complexity of emerging networks. This paper presents the use of mobile agents to distribute and automate management functions. Management by mobile agents provides a paradigm for distributed, flexible, scalable and robust network management that overcomes the key limitations of current centralized management schemes. We present the necessary infrastructure of management system for ATM switches with mobile agents. Each mobile agent process of management system consists of micro code, MCD (mobile code deamon), and managed object interface. It provides management services for ATM switches with code migration
