Abstract
Sea experiment is the last link before inertial navigation system (INS) is put into use formally. It is designed with meticulous care to imitate actual application environment for testing a new product whether it matches given technical specification and actual application requirement. The INS shouldn´t be put into service unless it has passed the sea experiment. The paper designs a sea experiment scheme for position, velocity and heading of the INS using carrier phase difference global positioning system (CDGPS). In the specified application, auxiliary boat, deck theodolite and light target are also used. Constituent and working principle of the external test system are described in detail, and the calculation method of the heading is also provided in the paper, While the systematic measuring precision is preliminary analysed, the heading precision is analysed especially in detail. The analysed result show that the external test system is able to achieve high precision relative to the tested INS. The accuracy of the position and velocity are centimetre level, and the error of the heading is very small. The scheme can meet the challenge of testing the INS.
