Abstract :
A combined system capable of noninvasively heating and monitoring temperature has been developed. This system consists of a miniannular phased array (MAPA) that works in combination with a whole-body MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) unit. The MAPA, originally designed to heat limb tumors and recently modified to be compatible with MRI, was centered inside the MRI head coil. A phantom made of polyacrylamide gel was heated and imaged. Temperature images were very consistent with classical invasive measurements.<>
