Abstract :
By experiment, this paper investigates how transport protocols affect media synchronization quality of stored MPEG video and voice streams. We deal with TCP, UDP and RTP as the transport protocols. For media synchronization, we adopt the virtual-time rendering (VTR) algorithm, which was previously proposed by the authors. We carried out a lip-synch experiment in an interconnected ATM-wireless LAN and in a wireless LAN using each of the three transport protocols. This paper makes a performance comparison among the three protocols in terms of the coefficient of variation of output interval, mean square error of inter-stream synchronization, and so on. Experimental results show that the quantitative relations among the three change according to the network configurations and the traffic conditions
