Abstract :
The characteristics of fuzzy mathematics, grey systems theory, rough set theory, and the basic characteristics of incomplete information and inaccurate data in uncertain systems are analyzed. The principle of simplicity of scientific theories, methods, and models is discussed. Detailed examples show that more satisfied results can be obtained by using models involving uncertainties than by using meticulous models on situations of certainty. It is suggested that the tendency of concentrating on complicated models is not always necessary when dealing with situations involving incomplete information and inaccurate data.
