Abstract
The structure of the locally optimum detector for composite signals in additive and multiplicative noise is investigated. A generalized model which can represent the effect of multiplicative noise as well as that of additive noise is considered for signal detection problems. The signals considered are composite signals which contain both deterministic and stochastic signal components. The locally optimum detector consists of a nonlinearity followed by an accumulator, whose output is then compared with a threshold. The detection nonlinearities for two probability density functions are obtained to show the detection structures
