Abstract
This paper documents the impact of a research program on a particular department in a particular institution. It presents a case study of the effects of a single professor´s three-year research effort as a participant in the NASA JOVE program, which is a research “tutorial” program intended to introduce faculty from nonresearch institutions to the research process. It describes the outcomes (which were overwhelmingly positive) from three perspectives: industrial; departmental/university; and personal. It is hoped that the reader can appreciate the range of benefits which is possible if research is performed with strong student participation and mandated outreach programs
