Abstract
At the design stage the costs for disassembly and recycling after the end of the product life are largely determined. To increase the awareness for this fact design engineers need support in terms of a tool that helps them to assess the impact of their proposed design and to direct them to an environmental friendly product. This paper proposes such an assessment tool which is developed by the Institute of Production Automation and Handling Technology. The method outlined covers the calculation of the process parameters level, time, costs and sequence of disassembly and the assessment of product properties. The evaluation method is converted into computerized tool
