Abstract
Current ideas on adaptive optics systems are reviewed from the author´s viewpoint and a tentative road-map to sketch the current and next decade situation is carried out. Multiple star sensing on an 8 m class telescope is the next frontier, however, a lot of work has still to be done on 4 m class telescopes
