Abstract :
A vision chip for very fast detection of motion vector is presented. It consists of a pixel array and parallel block matching processors. Each pixel of the pixel array contains a photodetector, an edge detector and a 4-bit memory. The image data is firstly binarized by the edge detector and then the binary edge data is used in the block matching. The block matching is performed in local pixel parallel and global column parallel way. We can obtain a dense motion field in which a motion vector is assigned to each pixel by overlapping 2×2 target blocks. The prototype with 16×16 pixels and four block matching processors is designed and implemented. Test results obtained by the prototype are shown
