Abstract
Several methods for analyzing the queuing behavior of switching networks with flow control and shared buffer switches are described. The methods are compared on the basis of accuracy and computation speed, with the performance metric of most concern being the maximum throughput. The best of the methods accurately predicts throughput for multistage networks constructed from large switches (⩾8 ports)
