Abstract
A description is given of an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) instrumentation system, and the advantages of a distributed processing approach to its implementation are discussed. Some of the functions are described, and it is shown that local intelligence in each of the units is essential. The decomposition of such complex instrumentation problems can ease the implementation and enables equipment to be enhanced and added without a major redesign.<>
