Abstract
A novel compact repeater with automatic gain-control is developed to provide IMT-2000 mobile communication services to previously blind areas such as in a building or underground mall. The thermal noise generated by the repeater degrades the uplink capacity of a base station. In this paper, we evaluate the capacity degradation, propose an automatic gain control method to reduce the degradation, and investigate the effectiveness of the proposed method. The repeater with automatic gain-control can provide service in a radius of 100 meters with only 2% degradation in capacity.
