  • Abstract
Fractional head model can effectively reduce the computational effort of Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) calculation, which is usually extremely complicated and time demanding. This paper studies the uses of a reduced-size fractional phantom head model for SAR evaluation. The effect of the fractional spherical phantom heads on the antenna performance and the SAR value are studied by using the Finite- Difference Time-Domain (FDTD) method. Results have shown that both the return loss and the radiation pattern of the mobile phone antenna are only slightly affected by the fractional head model for almost all cases when the phantom head is truncated to not more than 25% in volume. Results have also indicated that the percentage difference in the SAR value for the full head model and the fractional head model is less than 5%.
