Abstract :
The paper presents the effect of apparent reactance by series Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) i.e. Thyristor Controlled Series Capacitor (TCSC) on transmission line parameters protected by an Inverse Definite Minimum Time (IDMT) Directional Overcurrent Relay (DOCR) based International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) standard characteristic curve. The DOCR is used to protect a 400 kV transmission line of the Algerian transmission networks which belong to the Algerian Company of Electrical and Gas. The effects of TCSC on protected transmission line parameters as well as fault current and operation time of the DOCR in the presence of phase to earth fault with fault resistance for three cases study is investigated.
