Abstract
In this paper, switching characteristics under different index of refraction modulations in Kerr-like nonlinear periodic structure as all-optical switch are investigated. We show that the switching threshold field can be controlled using the index of refraction modulations. For investigating this phenomenon, we adopt some different modulating curves and the simulated results are demonstrated. Our simulations show that by using suitable modulating functions, the switching threshold can be controlled. Also, the switching transit time (rise time) can be managed.
